Occasionally you may want or need to play a certain set of songs at a party or club. To best be prepared, you might want to create a line-up of pre-selected songs to play. To get a better idea of creating a line-up you might want to think of the flow of energy or mood you will create with your line-up. This flow of music has to set a tone for the crowd to be able to keep dancing or listening to for a good amount of time. It would not be wise to just play the hottest tracks at once and burn out your crowd and even worse, have no other hot tracks to play. Think of a roller coaster ride and create a line-up of songs that brings your crowd on a smooth up and down music ride.
Here is an example of line-up:
- First few songs: mellow popular songs to get people on the dance floor
- next few: more popular/familiar hits that people really like to dance to
- next few: big hits that everyone knows and wants to hear. Usually something on the radio. you can also mix in classic hits that people always like to hear.
- next few: after the hits get played you might want to bring the tone down and play some tracks that were hits a few months back or some more mellow tracks,
- next: you might want to play some mellow classics that people like to hear and maybe dance to.
Always remember, a line-up can be changed according to what your crowd is doing, there really is no perfect formula. If the floor is empty and people are shy, play a hit song and get them up. If they have been dancing a long time, give them something a bit more relaxed so they can take a break. Remember, they don't always have to be dancing all night, unless they want to. The crowd will create a chemistry you will have to feel and then you will be able to give them what they want.
